M1 Slab Stabilisation.

Balvac has successfully negotiated a further package of works, worth £250k, for slab stabilisation works on the M1 in Derbyshire, between Junctions 27 and 28.

The work is being undertaken for AMScott, who are Managing Agents for the Highways Agency in Area 7. The scheme is advanced works prior to a major widening contract due in 2008.

The Injection Technique.

Balvac's work involves drilling through the reinforced concrete road slabs and injecting a dry-blow pfa grout to fill substantial voids at underbridge locations. Once the pfa grout has settled and cured, polyeurethane resin is injected using Balvac's vacuum-assisted injection technique to top-up and tighten the sub-base. The result is a consolidated, fully stable slab.

Programme.

The work is planned to take place in 22 night visits over a four week period in February. Access to only two lanes at a time is generally available between 10pm and 4am.
