Balvac is proud to have been awarded a £900k contract for client Grosvenor, to undertake the restoration of two Grade II Listed warehouse structures in Liverpool. The disused warehouses have been empty for many years and have been partially de-constructed.

Prior to the contract award, Balvac worked closely with Main Contractor Balfour Beatty Construction Ltd to agree the scope and pricing.

The contract is part of Liverpool’s Paradise Project, currently the largest cons truction project in Europe. Over £900m of major improvements are underway in the heart of the city centre, to be completed in 2008 when Liverpool will be the European Capital of Culture.

Work on the Warehouses will include:

· Masonry repair and restoration

· Reconstruction of roof

· Resin repair to Bressemer Beams

· Timber repairs and restoration

· Realignment of floor levels

· Refurbishment of original Warehouse Winch System.

· Management of Access Scaffolding and Building Support Systems

The warehouses are situated in the middle of the Paradise Complex and are completely surrounded by New Build Construction. The tight working space has meant that a considerable amount of planning has been essential to overcome logistical issues.

Balvac are working to a very tight programme. The works must be complete by Mid Jan 2008 to ensure that internal fit out and new build extension can commence.

The warehouses are Grade II Listed and so resources are being carefully managed to ensure materials are re-used wherever possible. Once restored, the warehouses will be used as commercial retail space.

Balvac is proud to be part of such a large development scheme and we wish the team well as they begin work on this challenging project
