Top Marks for Balvac's Team at Derby, August 2006

Balvac received excellent scores in a recent Considerate Constructors audit, demonstrating an industry leading approach to HSEQ

Commitment to Collaborative Working…

Work is progressing well for Balvac in the first year of a three-year framework with Derby City Council. Working with Principal Contractor Tarmac, Balvac is providing strengthening works to the bridges and structures on the Derby Inner Ring Road. The success of the framework relies upon an integrated team approach and in all stakeholders working collaboratively.

The scheme in total is worth over £10m, Balvac have so far been allocated over £2m worth of work.

Commitment to Health and Safety…

The team received a score of 39.5 out of a possible 40 when audited by the Considerate Constructors auditor. Over 90% of the audit related to work being undertaken by Balvac.

The auditor commented:

‘The high standards already achieved by the site management team, in partnership, are continuing, and I congratulate all concerned.’

Innovative Environmental Solutions…

A particular environmental concern for the team has been how to prevent water pollution to an adjacent river. A system has been developed and built into the scaffolding to ensure all waste water produced by the hydrodemolition activities is directed to collection points to be filtered and then safely disposed of. This innovative solution helped the team score 94% in an internal Environmental Audit.
